Ball Mill Working Principle


The mainbody of the ball mill is a low-speed rotary cylinder mounted on two large bearings horizontally. The ball mills rotary part is driven at reducing speed by motor through speed reducer and gearweheel or by low-speed synchronous motor through gearwheel. Inside the cylinder feed proper grinding medium-steel balls. The medium will be lifted to certain height under the action of centrifugal force and friction and drop or fall. The material to grind is fed to the cylinder in succession and crushed by grinding medium, then discharged through overflow and continual feeding force, and enter the next procedure.

Ball Mill Structure

A ball mill is, essentially, a large cylinder filled with steel balls. Milling is accomplished by rotation of the cylinder, which causes the balls to drop onto materials placed inside. Rotation of the mill is between 4 to 20 RPM (revolutions per minute) depending on the mill's diameter, larger mills will have a slower RPM than smalelr mills. As the ball rotates the fine particles come out the end while the larger particles remain in the ball to continue being crushed.

Lining plates are installed in the inner of ball mill, around the machine body. Because of the special working principle, the lining plates can well protect the machine body. If there are no plates, the machine body is easy to be abraded.

Output spiral is the key part of ball mill. When stones or mineral ores are crushed, they will be let out from the output spiral. Thus, the output spiral is to be abraded and the particles will abrade the machine body once it is damaged.
